When is the best time to meditate?

I get asked this question all the time

Meditation is no big secret, and we can’t deny the benefits these days. We read article after article about the amazing, life-enhancing benefits of meditation. For some reason, there’s this overwhelm and a little fear of what to expect, worry that we’re not doing it right, and just general confusion when people don’t know where to start.

The technique that my teacher, davidji, has been teaching for years is RPM. Rise. Pee. Meditate. It’s really as simple as that!  We all have 24 hours in the day and we all have a morning ritual that we follow. Our morning ritual usually consists of between 8 and 15 things we do every single morning, probably in the same order. Now if you can push your meditation routine to the very front of your morning ritual, within a few minutes of you opening your eyes, you will have created a 5, 10, or even 30 minutes of stillness and silence that will ripple into every moment throughout your day. 

It sounds simple, but that simple ritual has allowed me and hundreds of thousands of meditators to never miss our morning meditation.  

My morning routine: 

What time do I meditate? I’ll usually start my morning meditation somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00 after I make my hot water, coffee, or tea. I have a little spot in the office and we all pile up on the daybed and get comfortable. My doggies, Yogi and Jingo, are in such a routine with my routine that if I’m just a few minutes late, they nudge me and let me know it’s time to meditate. What a great start to the day. 

Even just starting with 5 minutes of stillness and silence is perfect. You can even build on that 5 minutes and add one minute each week Within a few weeks, you’ll have created this beautiful practice into your morning routine. After a few days, it’ll be a part of you. 

Some of the benefits you can expect: your sleep will be more restful, you’ll find that time actually expands for your throughout the day.
