Don't Turn Your Practice Into Some Neurotic Achievement - Ram Dass

So, I was reading a little more of Ram Dass yesterday and this quote almost jumped off the page.

“don't turn your practice into some neurotic achievement

I've done it. With lots of things…, exercise, and even meditation. I like this reminder because it allows me to come back around to my meditation practice and really think about the reason I'm doing it and the benefits behind the practice.

Whatever the practice, we can really get caught up in the "accomplishment" of it all. That's a great way to mess up something you enjoy. Right?

And, that's not how meditation works. Yes, it's nice to track how many times you can do something over and over but for some of us, it can be easy to fall into the accomplishment trap. I want to remind YOU that If you miss a day, don't let it ruin your day (or your week).

Just start again, and again, and again. See? Isn't that a softer way of practicing?

This quote is going on a giant Post-It note where I can see it from my Meditation Station.
